Always a beginner
We’re weakest
When we think
We have it all figured out.
When we think
We know
The patterns
The angles
And how things
Are going to go
Before they happen.
It occurs subtlety
And imperceptibly.
Things feel handled.
We no longer
Listen
Look
Or learn
As critically.
We lose our touch and feel
For nuance
And signals.
We end up trading
The present moment
For a preconceived notion of
The present moment.
And in so doing
Lose access to
The present moment.
Which is the only place
That has power.
The beauty of the beginner
Lies in their
Humility
Eagerness
And awe.
This is also
The beauty of the expert
Who comes to realize
That they’re always
A beginner.
