The weight of anger
When anger first flashes
It appears useful.
It stops action
And redirects energy.
It provides the illusion of resolution
For whatever sparked it.
It feels justified and effective
For a moment.
But then the next moment comes.
We’re wrong-footed
And off our game.
We’ve lost power
And can’t see the angles.
Later we realize
Anger left a weight
Not easily removed.
Trust diminished
Not easily rebuilt.
Relationships strained
Not easily re-strengthened.
Peace of mind lost
Not easily regained.
No matter how justified it feels
Anger takes the heaviest toll
On the angry.
Cool and calm
We always find
A better way through.
